Historic SMR - revisited
Andrea grew up in Hanover, Pennsylvania and started taking lessons from a man named Cowboy when she was six. Cowboy didnt have a saddle small enough for her, so she learned bareback. In sixth grade, Andrea got her first horse named Princess. She spent the weekends trail riding with her father western and taking english lessons during the week. She spent the next years showing with the 4H club. Her senior year in high school, her family sold the last of their horses due to financial conditions. The next few summers, she spent driving standardbreds for the Windmill Carriage Company in Gettysburg, PA. Her junior year in college, she signed on with a guest ranch in Paonia, Colorado as a wrangler and got hooked on being out west. She finished her senior year in college and graduated with a bachelors of science in environmental studies. For a handful of summers, she worked for the forest service in Meeker, Vail, and Pierce, ID doing anything from cruising timber and cutting trees to spraying noxious weeds on horseback and fighting wildfires. Her first winter in Steamboat Springs, she spent driving sleighs on a ranch up in Clark. The following winter she joined the folks at Saddleback ranch. There she led trail rides and drove sleighs/wagons for a year. She spent a month during hunting season working for the division of wildlife. The next three months, she worked as an apprentice for a local western natural horsemanship trainer. Andrea then moved back to Pennsylvania to work at a thoroughbred breeding farm as a night foaler/farm hand. She spent the nights filling feed buckets with grain and supplements for somewhere around 200 horses, moving mares and foals, taking care of stallions, and assisting with the delivery of the foals. Last winter, she continued to drive sleighs for Saddleback Ranch and signed on with Grizzle-T Dogsled Company and led dogsled tours. Andrea just wrapped up a summer of firefighting in Prescott, AZ on a hotshot crew. She is happy to be back in the Yampa Valley and is even more excited to be helping out at Saddle Mountain Ranch.
